About Me

I did my undergraduate degree at Oberlin College in Ohio. While I was there I competed on the varsity swimming and diving team all four years.  The experience I had in mathematics courses my first year there inspired me to ultimately graduate in 2014 with honors in mathematics. The liberal arts experience inspired me to continue pursuing math and to teach.

After I graduated from Oberlin I moved to Japan for two years via the JET Programme. While there I worked as an assistant language teacher at Omura Jonan High in Nagasaki Prefecture. I also helped teach at a school for the deaf once a week. Outside of teaching I took part in Kyudo at the high school and participated in a local tennis club. I also regularly traveled around Japan and through other parts of east and southeast Asia.

As a graduate student at Michigan State I have taken part in starting and running the AMS graduate student chapter three of the last four years. This last year (2022-2023) as president of the chapter I started a seminar series designed to give faculty a chance to present their work to early year graduate students. In my time on the eboard we have also regularly done various social events and professional development.

I'm also an avid runner, I've done five marathons over the last 8 or 9 years. I enjoy crafting, during the pandemic I restarted cross stitching and recently I have been learning to crochet. Otherwise, I enjoy spending time with my two cats, Sadie and Hugs. Sadie (white cat) I adopted in 2018 and then Hugs (black cat) I adopted back in the fall of 2022.
