I have developed my teaching practice through a wide range of teaching and mentorship experiences. I have taught essentially every type of lower division math course, along with an intro to proofs course and multiple courses for pre-service teachers. I also have experience mentoring undergraduate students on upper level math and research through multiple summer programs I have helped with here at Michigan State. Some highlights of my teaching experience include quantitative literacy, intro to proofs, and a senior level pre-service teacher course, functions and calculus for teachers. Throughout all three of these opportunities I have developed curriculum, projects, and activities. All of my teaching experiences can be found below with summaries and for some courses syllabi and activities I have developed.

Current Courses
Previous Teaching
Instructor of Record
MTH 305 - Functions and Calculus for Elementary Teachers
Spring 2023
Course with only one section for junior/senior preservice teachers with a specialization in mathematics.
Developed the curriculum for the course along with all activities, homework, quizzes, and projects.
Developed a final project where students researched usage of calculus in various fields such as medicine, engineering, and architecture. Some students related calculus back to elementary level mathematics.
MTH 201 - Elementary Mathematics for Teachers
Fall 2022
Content based course in which we teach future elementary school teachers the mathematics they will be teaching in the future.
Regularly met with the other course instructors to discuss material and write quizzes and exams.
MTH 101 - Quantitative Literacy
Spring 2022
Taught topics to help students understand numbers in the world around them with topics such as "causation and correlation", "measures of center", "basic probability", and many others.
Regularly helped students with their Excel projects in help sessions.
MTH 103A - College Algebra
Fall 2020
Version of College Algebra split across two semesters to increase accessibility.
Helped write quizzes and exams.
Graded quizzes and exams using standards based grading. Explained on page 4 of the syllabus here.
MTH 103B - College Algebra
Spring 2020 and Spring 2024
MTH 132 - Calculus I
Fall 2019
Taught two separate sections of the course.
Wrote and graded my own quizzes.
Wrote my own set of lecture notes for the course.
Online Teaching Team
MTH 101 - Quantitative Literacy
Fall 2021
Helped design a project for the students based on a model that simulated the spread of Covid which allowed for some parameters of the population to be changed. Also helped create the reflection essay questions for the students to do after the project.
Created snapshots for students which involved reading a news articles and then answering quantitative questions based on the articles.
MTH 299 - Transitions to Proofs
Summer 2021
Co-taught an online section with a peer. We alternated running the online lecture and group work sessions. Also graded homeworks and quizzes for the course.
MTH 235 - Differential Equations
Spring 2021
Graded weekly quizzes and exams. Ran an office hour once a week which regularly saw students.
MTH 133 - Calculus II
Summer 2020
Created problems for Webwork which is the online homework site many of the 100 level courses use here.
Ran the synchronous lectures online and posted videos for those who chose to attend later.
Graduate Teaching Assistant
MTH 112 Calculus II (Spring 2018)
MTH 117 Discrete Math (Fall 2017)
MTH 113 Multivariable Calculus (Spring 2017)
MTH 121 Linear Algebra (Fall 2016)
Involved grading, tutoring, and running help sessions for the specific course in the evenings once or twice a week. For MTH 121 I also graded Sage projects.
From August 2014-2016 I worked as an assistant language teacher in Japan. I worked for the Nagasaki Prefectural Board of Education. I primarily worked at Omura Jounan High School in the city of Omura. I prepared and taught English lessons with the goal of getting students to practice speaking for 9-12 classes per week. I worked one on one with students who were preparing for English speaking competitions, studying abroad, speeches, or want to major in language in college. I also co-lead the English club where we did a variety of English based activities once a week and put together a display for the annual school culture festival.
Once a week I also worked at a school for the deaf. Here I worked with students from late elementary to post secondary technical students.
Undergraduate Mentorship
Summer 2023
Led two different directed reading programs for two different undergraduate students. Students had limited mathematics experience beforehand, usually the highest courses they had seen were either intro to proofs or linear algebra.
One student did readings on Braids, Tangles, and Mutations which ultimately ended with learning about mapping class groups.
The other student read about the Euler characteristic and the classification of surfaces.
Helped both students prepare their first chalk talks and slide talks. This involved giving advice on how to structure mathematics talks to be effective at sharing what they had learned. Also, observed multiple practices for each student and gave them detailed feedback.
Also, helped students write a mathematical paper off of what they had learned. Gave revisions with the goal of improving their ability to share mathematical ideas.
Summer 2022
Worked with a group of four students on Cops and Robbers which is an example of a game on graphs.
Mentored students on how to read mathematics research and answered any questions they had.
Helped fill in any gaps in their background knowledge.
Provided guidance in what mathematical research looks like. Also learned how to better guide students in research and help lead them to discoveries in a beneficial manner for them.
